CT Burns Care Foundation Camp Counselor Receives Humanitarian Award
Connecticut Burns Care Children's Burn Camp Director Stephen J. Lupinacci of Shelton was presented with the 2007 Humanitarian Award by the Saint Barnabas Foundation of West Orange, NJ.

Lupinacci, a Stratford firefighter, was honored because of his commitment to helping burn survivor children, ages 8-18, heal emotionally as well as physically at The Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp, operated by the Connecticut Burns Foundation.

A volunteer Camp Director, Lupinacci, a Shelton resident, oversees the operations of the camp that accommodates more than 65 children each year for one week, who attend at no charge. In 1993, Lupinacci became a volunteer counselor at the camp, and took over as director in 2005. He also manages a voluntary counselor staff of more than 70 comprised primarily of firefighters from throughout the Northeast as well as Burns Care nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other medical personnel.

"I'm honored to receive this award; it means a great deal to me,"Lupinacci said. "But I couldn't do it alone. I have a tremendous staff that I rely on to guide me before and during that week of camp. I truly believe that this is what I'm supposed to be doing. I will always be an advocate for these young burn survivors."

President of the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation Board Armand Cantafio applauded Lupinacci for his dedication in running the Burns Care Camp.

"Steve does a tremendous job,"Cantafio said. "It's a big responsibility handling all those children and staff and making sure everything runs smoothly. He certainly is a deserving recipient of this award."

He also serves as the President of the Stratford Professional Firefighters Burn Foundation and resides in Shelton with his wife, Valerie and two sons Matthew and Justin.

The Connecticut Burns Care Foundation is non-profit organization based in Milford and was founded in 1978. In addition to operating The Arthur C. Luf Burns Camp, CBCF also supports hospital burns units and promotes fire safety awareness in school systems throughout the state.
